By Michael Oshell. This Saturday, August 21st, Toronto hosts musical genius and revolutionary Nicolas Jaar for a DJ set at Coda nightclub. To say that Toronto waits with baited breath for Nicolas Jaar is an understatement. Jaar last visited Toronto with Darkside affiliate Dave Harrington in January 2014 as part of their maiden North American tour. Since, he’s gone on to score a critically acclaimed film, release Nymphs II – a follow-up of his wildly successful Space Is Only Noise, and remix Florence & The Machine’s single What Kind of Man. Jaar makes his return to Toronto and Coda Nightclub debut this Saturday August 21st.
Not to be confused with his signature, and often mesmerizing, live set (note: see Boiler Room set) Jaar will take to the CDJ’s and 1200’s of Coda Nightclub instead. Expect to hear a much more accessible and club friendly sound from the Other People label boss. Tracks from sister label Wolf + Lamb will likely feature heavily but don’t be surprised to hear him throw on a few white label remix’s or bootleg’s of preferred vocalists like Nina Simone or Florence Welch.
As it stands, it is unlikely he will to run through his most recent musical offering entitled Pomegranates, as the work is better left to home listening, a great pair of headphones, and your wine of choice. Expect more techno and electronica of the slower variety as most of his work falls under the 100-bpm umbrella. We seriously suggest showing up at 9PM to snag a ticket at the door if you weren’t fortunate enough to buy advanced ones online – this is a rare booking you do not want to miss.
