FESTIVAL GUIDE: Boston Calling Music Festival, May 23-25

boston-calling-social By Dan Hogan. The Boston Calling Music Festival is a two-stage, three-day festival taking place in the heart of the historic city of Boston. This year, the festival’s spring edition will be held from May 23-25, and September 5-7 in the fall. A variety of different performers – some known to all and some known only to a few – will fill the streets around Boston’s City Hall with music just a few days from now.

Beginning this Friday evening, the festival will feature the headlining talents of Jack Johnson. From there, the festival will take place all day on Saturday and Sunday and will feature performances from Modest Mouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Bastille, and Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls.

The weather here in New England is always unpredictable, but Boston Calling will happen rain or shine. If you are someone who was planning on going but has not acquired tickets yet, you are almost out of time. You can still buy a one-day pass to Friday’s show, but Saturday and Sunday’s shows are completely sold out except for the VIP experience.

For tickets, you can go to Boston Calling’s website here: http://spring.bostoncalling.com/tickets.

There will be plenty of food and drinks at the festival, including food from Chipotle, Tasty Burger, and more. Boston’s own Samuel Adams will be featured at all beer vending areas. It is also strongly suggested that attendees to the festival review the prohibited items list to ensure that they do not show up to the festival with something that won’t be let in. You can find a list of such items here: http://spring.bostoncalling.com/info.

Driving around Boston is not for the faint of heart, so it is recommended that concert-goers take public transportation to the festival. Luckily, CIty Hall Plaza is right in the middle of several subway stops:

  • Orange Line: Haymarket
  • Blue Line: State Street
  • Red Line: Park Street
  • Green Line: Haymarket

For those who do wish to drive in, parking can be found at the Government Center Garage. Information about purchasing parking passes can be found here: https://governmentcenter.clickandpark.com/venue/?search[venue_id]=105

Boston has served as the host of many other terrific music festivals, including Radio 92.9’s annual Earthfest, and Mix 104.1’s Mixfest. It’s a good bet that this weekend’s Boston Calling will be no exception.
