Although it was released in early 2012, have/had remains one of my favourite EPs of all time. Recorded by a band hailing from Weston, Florida called Van Gogh Sky, it consists of 5 songs that feature great lyrics and something else captivating that you can’t quite pinpoint.
ABOVE: Playing “Newbury” at a warehouse show in October 2011. Although they only play(ed) small venues, they show a lot of energy and passion while playing.
They disbanded in the summer of 2012, but were a four-piece band, and reminded me of bands like Snowing, American Football and Dads. Though similar, Van Gogh Sky had definitely developed and shown their own sound in have/had, as well as in their other release, To Feel Deserving Of All Of This (which is also free on their bandcamp!). Since disbanding, they have played occasional shows and even released some songs in November on their Facebook, which gives me hope for this really talented group.
ABOVE: Studio version of “Head North”, off their have/had EP (also my favourite song by them).
If you’re into mellow, yet catchy tunes, this EP is definitely one you should go download for free on their bandcamp:http://vangoghsky.bandcamp.com/
