ITC Exclusive: 10 Fast Fun Facts with Sam Miller and Brian Cag

I had the pleasure of getting to chat with two of the lead men of The Resolution Tour at the show in Los Angeles, Sam Miller of Paradise Fears and Brian Cag of Action Item! We decided to ask them some fun and fast questions (and a few serious ones) about touring and their most awkward moments. Take a look below to see just what these rockstars had to say to this random quiz!

Sam Miller, sings in Paradise Fears, thinks there is no such thing as too serious of a question.

1. What currently is your most favorite song that you guys have record?

It’s a new song called Lullaby. It’s the first time I have legitimately, infectiously not been able to stop listening to one of our songs. That’s how catchy and weird it is to me, which sounds conceded and arrogant but I actually just really like listening to it.

2. Favorite food to eat on tour?

Every time there is a Chick’fil’A near I always hit it up. I love Chick’fil’A.

3. Any weird nicknames that you guys have for each other?

Yeah. We are an exclusively nickname group. Cole is Toby, Lucas is Booty, our merch guy Antyhony is Twan, Twan Beats, Twan Beats Black. I’m Sammy Twa or Smills or Sammy Mills. Grant our tour manager is called Papa Motts. I mean these all have like the weirdest back stories but they are our nicknames for each other.

4. Do you guys have a pre-show ritual?

We sometimes do. I think a lot of us just like to get in our own zone before we go on stage but sometimes we do the thing from Hot Rod where one of us sings “Gods of WAAARRR” and then everyone answers with “May your hammer be mightyyy.”

5. Weirdest thing you have seen all tour?

We went and saw “The Thing” in Arizona.

What is “The Thing”?

I’m not allowed to tell you. It’s a tourist trap off of I-10 between Texas and Mesa Arizona. We were driving through there and it was like “YOU HAVE TO SEE THE THING!” and then you pay a dollar and you walk through and you see “The Thing.” But I can’t tell you what it is, that would ruin it.

Can you find it online?

Yeah but don’t!
6. Most awkward moment you have had with a girl?

Oh god. I was dating a girl in high school and there was a different girl who I had just recently broken up with her and started seeing this new and I called her by the old girls name. That was incredibly tense for me.

7. Favorite genre of music?

Alternative rock, acoustic rock, Parachute, stuff like that!

8. Most embarrassing moment?

One time I was playing a private party, actually this happened three days ago, anyways I went to the bathroom in the middle of the set. I used the bathroom and the toilet wouldn’t work and it wouldn’t flush. And I was like “uhhhh, do I go back and continue playing the set like nothing happened?” I don’t know what I was supposed to do in the situation.
9. Plans after tour?

Come home, back to LA and write some music!

10. Details on your new record?

We are still recording new songs for it. We have finished 14 or 15. We are not going to release it until we are absolutely 100% ready and absolutely 100% in love with all the songs. It’s gonna be a blast!

Brian Cag, sings in Action Item, knows how to state his name perfectly.

1. What currently is your most favorite song that you guys have record?

I believe it’s a song from our new record called Good or Bad and it’s probably one of my favorites. It’s kind of like a cliff hanger song because you don’t know if the character in it is actually in a great situation or a terrible situation. I’m kind of into cliff hanger movies so I love that stuff.

2. Favorite food to eat on tour?

I mean we are here in LA right now and my favorite thing to eat is sushi so we have this one spot called Crazy Rocking Sushi. It’s really awesome, I think it’s on Santa Monica and La Brea. It’s amazing.

3. Any weird nicknames that you guys have for each other?

Dan Brozek our drummer, we call him Excess DB because he does everything in excess and it’s really funny. He just doesn’t know when to stop being an idiot. Anthony is the Token Asian of the group because he is part asain. Me, I’m just Mr.Cool Guy, I’m the coolest one. Just kidding. I don’t have one. Mainly we just pick on Dan a lot.
4. Do you guys have a pre-show ritual?

We used to do this crazy kind of chant, it was this funny Ryan Adams song. Ever hear of his song where he makes fun of The Red Hot Chili Peppers? Well we used to sing that every time before we went one stage. It was funny but now we just kind of warm up and run in place.

5. Weirdest thing you have seen all tour?

I think I saw someone get punched in the face in Orlando. Orlando is a crazy place. That was interesting.

6. Most awkward moment you have had with a girl?

I think we were on the Owl City tour and there was this cute girl I saw so I was like “Hey do you wanna hang out later?” or whatever and she was like “Yeah sure!” or whatever. So her and her friend came to hang out and I thought it was just going to be me and her, just us to hanging out going out for a drink or something. Turned out her friend came and her friend just hated me for some reason. She was like “I just hate guys in bands” and I was like first off, it’s not about that. I don’t come off like that kind of person. And she just hated me the entire night and kept ragging on my the entire night for no reason. But I still got her friends number so it’s all good. So screw that girl, whatever.

7. Favorite genre of music?

I guess pop. I’m in a pop band. I’ve always related to pop music when I was little. I think my first casset ever was an Ace of Bass CD.
8. Most embarrassing moment?

When I was in 5th grade I had a huge crush on this girl and I sent her an E-card asking her out on a date because I was to scared. I went to school the next day and was like “So do you wanna go out on a date?” and she was like “what?” Apparently she never got the thing and she told all of her friends and I got really embarrassed.

9. Plans after tour?

More touring! We are doing Warped Tour this summer. We have this new project Brave where we will be colaborating with our artists on social networking sites by doing our song brave in different variations with different people

10. Details on your new record?

We worked today with Kurt Schneider, a great artist on Youtube. We just did Brave today with him so we are excited to put that out. That is kind of the main focus right now. We might actually be going over seas soon so internally maybe some tours or shows.
